A designer candle can run you $40 to $90 for something that burns down in a few weeks. The good news is that most of the famous ones have a much cheaper twin that the candle community has already found. Here are the pairings worth knowing.

How to read the matches
A score in the 80s means most people, most of the time, would be happy to swap. The last ten percent is usually a subtle difference in throw, a slightly sweeter dry-down, or a shorter burn. Candles are also more room-dependent than fragrance is on skin, so a big open kitchen will hide small gaps that a tiny bathroom would expose.
