The honest catch, stated plainly because it is the whole reason to read this rather than a listicle: it is a plain rug. There is no scalloped border. Buy it for the material and the colour, not for the outline — and if the scallop is specifically what you wanted, no rug we checked will give it to you at this price.

Serena & Lily’s Riviera side chair is $328 and the armchair $428 (serenaandlily.com, read 4 September 2026). It is the Parisian bistro silhouette — an arched back, a two-tone woven panel, and a rattan frame the brand says is bent and shaped by hand.
This is the one Serena & Lily silhouette Amazon does reproduce, and the dimensions are the evidence rather than the photos. The Riviera side chair is 18″W × 23.5″D × 35″H. Christopher Knight Home’s bistro chairs are 18.5″W × 21.5″D × 35″H — the same seat height and within an inch on width. Around a table they occupy the same space.

The catch is the material, and it is the whole price difference. Serena & Lily bends a real rattan frame by hand. These are aluminium frames under a faux-rattan weave, built for a patio. That is not only a downgrade: the Riviera is an indoor chair and these will live outside. But if you want the hand-bent rattan itself, no aluminium chair is going to give it to you, at any price.

- The scalloped border itself — the single most-searched detail and the one nothing reproduces. Worth saying rather than burying.
- Bar and counter stools — the Riviera dining chair has an Amazon match; its stools do not. Seat height and depth vary in ways listing photos hide, and nothing we checked lands on both the profile and the height.
- Bedding — the appeal is a specific linen weight and wash, neither of which is verifiable from a listing.
How to judge a jute rug dupe yourself
Hand-knotted versus machine-woven is the real quality line and it is always in the spec table. Jute versus a jute blend is next — blends shed differently and flatten sooner. Ignore the photo's colour, because natural jute varies batch to batch and every listing is shot warm.
