The short answer
West Elm's signature is a narrow one: low profiles, tapered wood legs, warm wood against matte black, and soft nubby weaves. That vocabulary is cheap to approximate and expensive to build well, which is exactly the gap a contract manufacturer lives in. The Andes is a low, deep, boucle-or-velvet box sitting on tapered wood legs. West Elm lists it at $1,199 to $2,499 depending on which of the 60-to-96-inch sizes you pick. Modway's Hawken range copies the part that carries the room — the proportions, the leg taper, the boucle — and lands at roughly half.
Where it differs, honestly: West Elm builds on a kiln-dried hardwood frame with a longer warranty, and the Andes seat is a little deeper. You are buying the look, not the build. Boucle also shows pet hair more than West Elm's performance velvet, which is the real trade at this price.

West Elm's Mid-Century Art Display table is a clear glass top over a lower display shelf on tapered legs, at $500. The AGV LIGHTING Tadio is the same idea executed the same way, from about $100 for the 41-inch and $170 for the larger one — and it comes in more finishes than West Elm offers.

Where we found no honest dupe
These come up constantly in West Elm dupe searches and we are not going to name a product just to fill the row:
- Nightstands and dressers — the case pieces carry finish and drawer-front detail that the Amazon equivalents do not reproduce. Matching the leg taper and the drawer count is not matching the piece.
- Curtains — West Elm's are mostly about fabric weight and drape, which no listing photo can tell you and no spec sheet reports.
- Rugs — plenty of Amazon rugs are in the neighbourhood, but West Elm's are usually a specific hand-knot or weave rather than a pattern, and the pattern is the part that gets copied.
Two Amazon house brands are worth flagging as dead ends: Rivet and Stone & Beam were Amazon's own mid-century and farmhouse furniture lines, and a lot of older “West Elm dupe” lists still recommend them. Searching either on Amazon in August 2026 returns essentially nothing from the brand. If a guide is still sending you there, it has not been checked in a while.
How to judge a West Elm dupe yourself
Three checks, in the order that catches the most bad matches. Frame first: kiln-dried hardwood against plywood or particle board is most of the price difference and all of the lifespan difference. Seat depth second, because it is what makes a room look like the catalogue photo and it is listed on every Amazon page. Leg taper and finish last — it is the most visible cue and the easiest one to get close on, which is why it is the least useful thing to shop by.
