Dyson Airwrap dupes: only one actually works the same way

The Airwrap has more claimed dupes than anything else we cover, and almost all of them are a different tool wearing the same marketing. Exactly one widely available styler uses the same physics — the Shark FlexStyle, at about $249 against roughly $600 — and this page is mostly about telling those apart.

Some links are affiliate links — we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate status never affects a rank or a score. Prices were read off Amazon on 27 August 2026 and move constantly. More.

The thing that separates a dupe from a lookalike

The Airwrap works on the Coanda effect: fast-moving air clings to the curved barrel and draws hair round it, so the hair is shaped by airflow rather than by a hot surface. That is why Dyson can sell it as styling without extreme heat, and it is the entire reason people pay $600.

Most “Airwrap dupes” under a hundred dollars are hot barrels or thermal brushes with a fan attached. They can give you a good curl. They are not doing the same thing to your hair, and if heat exposure is why you wanted an Airwrap, they defeat the point entirely. That distinction is what this page ranks on, and it is why our cheapest entry is not our top pick.

Shark FlexStyle, about $249

The one real answer. Same Coanda mechanism, same wrap-on-air curl, and people who have used both consistently describe the results as near-indistinguishable. The honest differences run in both directions: the Dyson is quieter and lighter in the hand, and the Shark converts into a hair dryer, which the Airwrap does not.

Two that we rank lower on purpose

Both are decent machines. Neither is an Airwrap, and both cost more than the FlexStyle.

How to judge an Airwrap dupe yourself

One question does almost all the work: does it curl with air, or with a hot surface? If the listing talks about barrel temperature, ceramic plates or tourmaline coating, it is a hot tool. If it talks about airflow and Coanda, it is in the same family as the Dyson. Attachment count, which is what the listings shout about, tells you nothing about which of the two you are buying.

FAQ

What is the best Dyson Airwrap dupe?
The Shark FlexStyle, about $249 against roughly $600 — the only widely available styler using the same Coanda airflow.

Is a sub-$100 Airwrap dupe any good?
Not as an Airwrap dupe. Those are hot barrels or thermal brushes — a different tool with different heat exposure.

Are Airwrap dupes legal?
Yes. Coanda airflow is a physical principle, not something one brand owns. None is sold as a Dyson.
